Performance assessment is a form of testing that requires students to perform a task to demonstrate learning and personal mastery. Experienced raters — either teachers or other trained staff — then judge the quality of the student’s work based on an agreed-upon set of criteria. Although there are a number of different ways schools use performance assessments to evaluate student learning, some schools even ask that students provide evidence of both learning and application of that learning in order to graduate.
